A hectic month hardware wise. Carol's large laptop (or portable PC) developed a fault with its screen Now, here's a cautionary tale.
The fault appeared on Saturday. After the initial period of trying everything, because you think it is you, and then the shock to discover that it is going to have to be sent away for repair, the next step is to try and locate all the warranty paperwork.
Having found this you phone the given number to get a recording telling you that they are only available Monday to Friday, 9am to 5 pm. Nothing to be done until Monday then! We decided, as it was the screen that had gone, we would take a trip to PC World at Exeter to buy a second LCD monitor as big as Carol was used to and plug this in to my smaller screened laptop.

We drove to Exeter on Sunday and found that PC World had vanished. Nothing daunted we went along to Comet and bought one there.
Monday came and it was lunch time when I was free to phone the manufacturers. That's right, I was told they were at lunch and to ring back. I next rang back after lunch, only to be told they were busy and I must ring back again- not even the chance to hang on.
Tuesday morning I phoned hard on 9am and, after the usual 'there are 4 in front of you' I did get through. I was given details how to wrap and label it and the phone number of a carrier that I had to contact to arrange collection. After the usual delay etc. etc., I got through to the carrier and was extremely pleased when she said "We will pick it up today before 1.30" |
After waiting until 2.30 I phoned them and was told they must phone me back after contacting Exeter (they were at Plymouth). They phoned back and said they couldn't find the driver and would I phone back.
Finally the machine was picked up at 5pm on Tuesday. On Friday we came home from feeding the horses in the morning to find a ticket in the door. They had tried to deliver (without letting us know) but we were out. Phone Exeter!
We phoned and were told that, they don't work Saturdays and as it was a Bank Holiday weekend, they couldn't deliver until Tuesday. It arrived today about 4pm, after more phone calls.
I didn't have space to tell you about my wireless router which lost its power, did I?
