Out and about in May
Mark and Sarah Blacksell had a good sighting of a Red Kite on 9 May. They were in Taw Marsh and saw it flying over the Belstone Tor ridge. On 12 May a racing pigeon turned up in my garden; I read the phone number on its leg-tag - it was from Thirsk in Yorkshire .

General Election day at Belstone saw the usual higher than average turn-out; about 86% of the parish electorate voted (that's about 160 people) compared with the constituency average turn-out of 70.2%.

On 21 May the new kitchen at Belstone Village Hall was officially opened by John Moppett, President of the Hall committee. A free lunch was laid on as a thank you to all the villagers who have done so much fund raising over the years.

Belstone Cricket Club had their third game of the season washed out on FA Cup Final day, but they did record a win against Torquay on 15 May in their first South Devon League fixture. Sticklepath (70 for nine off 20 overs) were also well beaten by Belstone (74 for one off 13 overs) on 25 May in the first Buckley Cup evening match of the season. |

The cricket season hots up at Belstone with the following fixtures: Sun 5 June away at Honiton, Sunday 12 June at home to Paignton in the South Devon League (SDL), Saturday 18 June at home to Old Eldonians, Sunday 19 June away at Mount Edgcumbe, Saturday 25 June at home to Yeovil College and Sunday 26 June away at Buckfastleigh (SDL); all starting at 2.30pm. Evening games in June are away at Sticklepath on Wednesday 8 th , at home to Yeoford on Thursday 16 th and at home to Tedburn St Mary on Wednesday 22 June, all at 6.30pm .

This A5 soft-back book was first published in October 2002 and has now been reprinted, due to popular demand. It contains 194 pages, including 19 pages of black and white photographs and three pages of maps, graphs and tables.
Also available is a video showing Belstone events (Beating the Bounds, fetes, pantomimes, Jubilee celebrations etc) and day-to-day farming life between 1965 and 2002 (running time 2 hours 40 minutes).
