I may have said this before, but the last week in every month is panic. Panic that I haven't got enough photos, panic that I'll not get the monthly Journal ready in time, panic that I've not got enough material, etc. etc. In contrast, the two weeks at the start of the month are very relaxed, when I can afford to do other things that either need doing or that I have always meant to do. One thing that I did last month was to sort out the first few archives and I am pleased now that I have located all the graphics that were missing and the early sites are now readable.
Two very enjoyable things occurred also this month. I was contacted first by an ex owner of Bessies Cottage (corner of School Lane, opposite The Stores in South Zeal) with some very interesting history of the building. Th4e second was an e-mail from the new resident in Albany House Sticklepath with the offer of some scans of some early (1890s) postcards. I hope you enjoy both items as much as I do. It is times like these that make the effort worth while.

I am sorry I have not updated the Church House web site for a while. I was about to, in the middle of last month, whenI was contacted by the main building contractors with the (justified) complaint that I had not featured them as yet. I asked for and was promised some detail to go with the photograhs that they supplied and will be rectifying my oversight shortly. In the meantime, I have photos of visits both to the joinery works of the firm supplying the woodwork (Marshalls)and the brewery that is making the Church House Ale (Exe valley). These visits also will be featuring on the Church House web site, probably within the week.
My next project stemming from Church House but really concerning the whole area is to complete taking photographs of the wooden carvings on the ceiling of St Andrew's, South Tawton. My early efforts were hampered by poor equipment which I have since updated. Now all that is needed is time - hopefully this month.

My really good news this month is that Dave Watkins has agreed to take over the vacant Sticklepath correspondent task. I am doubly grateful because he is currently very busy rehearsing his role for the Exeter production of Fiddler on the Roof. David wrote the script and directed the Trafalgar Day sketch performed in Victory Hall by the newly re-formed South Zeal Players. Again I was lucky that David was able to photograph the presentation that was made to Bill Cann on the day as I was stuck at home with an overflowing sewage pipe, digging up the garden and waiting for the water board.
One last mention - Sue Wannacott's (and I think one from Helen) photographs of the school trip to London.
How nice that our children get the chance to see the sights and enjoy a bit of interesting history.
