South Tawton School Visit London

Year 6 visit London

We set off at 7am from South Tawton Primary School on Friday 23rd September 2005 for our first overnight excursion to London .

After stopping for a picnic lunch we made our way to Westminster Pier where we boarded a sightseeing tour boat for a circular trip viewing many of the famous landmarks.

We then visited the BBC TV studios for a backstage tour which was most informative, we learned about how the weather was presented, the news reported and the sets are changed and constructed. We had a look inside one of the star's dressing rooms, viewed some of the props and the children took part in a quiz, testing their knowledge of what we had seen and heard.

We stayed overnight in a YHA Hostel in the Docklands area and after breakfast the next day we set off for our tour of Shakespeare's Globe Theatre and Exhibition. The children were able to try on armour and test their voices as Shakespearian actors as well as looking at the costumes and props used. Our guide told us about the construction of the building, as close to the original as possible and how life would have been at the time.

We had a lovely walk in the sunshine, over the Millennium Bridge and along the bank of the river, viewing the sights, before boarding the coach after a snack! We headed out of London, again passing many landmarks, before stopping for a picnic lunch on our way home.

We arrived back at school at 7pm on Saturday night after a very enjoyable, if tiring visit!
