I got home from work last night thinking i was heading for a cup of coffee and a quiet few zeds in the garden. This was not to be as the South Tawton scouts with Mike & Carolyn Boother, Tracey Smith, Judith Beacom and others were heading up to Cawsand hill from Belstone car park.
What a magical day. The girls brought up the flag and in great heat and glorious light we ascended to the top. Many of the other scouts were there to cheer the youngsters on. It was a longer walk than some had done for some time but we were doing it in very warm sunlight. Even after the sun had gone down we were hot in shirtsleeves at 10.00pm
Kieran Shilston, Grace Davey, Aleisha Brint, Molly Bell and Poppy Chadwick were all enrolled. The flag was held and the words were spoken.
Afterwards we all walked down to South Zeal and then to the Boother's house. No-one had got lost despite the girls being as far ahead on the down hill from the top of Cawsand as they had been behind on the way up! The drivers were driven back to Belstone by Mike in his soft topped Triumph. A memorable experience!!! I think it is a day we will all remember. Dartmoor in the evening is always special. Seeing mid Devon laid out before us in the dying light was an image that will endure.
Thanks to everyone who organised the walk, to those that helped and all who took part.
