Zale Fayre
by Tom Bell

A wonderful weekend. The marquee formed the backdrop for the whole weekend . This included a beer festival on Saturday .. then this continued on Sunday with a tennis tournament organised by Sarah Bell & Steve Mathewson.

Meanwhile on the main ground an epic struggle occurred on the cricket pitch. After a close call South Zeal claimed victory in a nail biting finish in the annual match v Sticklepath. It was a great match and went all the way to the wire. It was probably the first ever cricket match to be settled by penalties!

The final score is in dispute ... the feeling from South Zeal was we had it by a margin of 4.The scorer, from Sticklepath I might add, disputed this!

There will be doubtless an endless dispute here .. but we can say that both teams scored 150 + and the finish seemed to disappear in a haze of alcoholic fumes ..... to be resumed next year!

All the beer from the festival went ... and at the end of the day you can see a happy Ray Souness ... a profit at last!!
