Sticklepath by David Watkins

Not a lot happened in Sticklepath during December.

The Mid-Devon Hunt assembled in the car park of the Devonshire Inn one sunny morning, sipping lots of tots of something warming before trotting their way through Sticklepath's worst traffic jam since records began. (Back in August 2005 – Trafalgar Way event.)

The hunt reached Belstone, where further “something warming” was taken before galloping about their legal business on the Moor.

One December morn, the sunrise was fabulous and looked as if someone had built an oil storage depot near Ramsley Mine.

Sticklepath has a wealth of wild birds nesting in the surrounding countryside and waterways and they are just great to see. So if you have a few minutes to spare, leave some scraps out for them in this cold winter. Those nuts you find in your fruit bowl in May will, when opened, keep the birds happy for hours. Jays like feeding on peanuts and show off their aerobatics in extracting them.

Even game birds will pay you a visit. The beautiful cock pheasant in the picture ate a mountain of Pillau rice and Cous-cous – obviously a gourmand.

Santa earned a well-earned rest after is overnight journey.

He crashed out awhile in the sunlit Taw River Inn with his overweight co-driver who seemed to have had too much sherry and mince pies.
