"Choices Rather Than New Year's Resolutions"

As we move into 2006 I've decided to make better choices rather than tie myself to resolutions I might struggle to keep. If I fail to keep resolutions I feel guilty and usually give up altogether. Attempting to make better choices in eating habits, ethical buying, care of the environment and so on means a more holistic approach to change that benefits more than just me. Give it a try!

Winter walks and chestnuts roasting on an open fire..

We have just had our round of Christmas services and activities and are now enjoying a few days off at home. We thought of taking a drive to Bude today but it is very frosty and road conditions not good. Instead we took Chester for a walk to the quarry and on to the Nature Reserve. There we met lots of people and their families including young people home from university. The dogs had a good sniff at each other as their owners exchanged local news. It really is very cold so we retreat to home and warm fire. As I type the smell of roasting chestnuts wafts through the house. Michael has discovered that the wood-burning stove does the job beautifully! They do taste delicious. Outside my window the birds are feeding on fat balls and other goodies while chirping away like mad! Sadly one of my chickens recently disappeared and I wonder if the badger is guilty this time? A few days ago I saw a large badger at twilight run across the road from the field next door! Never mind I've got the panto in Exeter to look forward to……

Unwanted Christmas gifts

If you find you have been given too many pairs of socks and gloves or have been showered with toiletries then do think of donating them to St Petrock's Centre which offers daytime shelter, food, showers and practical support for around 50 homeless people every weekday. I go to Exeter twice a week and would be happy to deliver any such items. Feel free to leave them at The Rectory, South Tawton.

It provides a warm, safe, welcoming environment, together with immediate non-judgemental, unconditional, basic survival support such as food, clothes, laundry, showers, information and "signposting".
