Was that summer 2005 then? What happened to it? I've only just got out my knotted handkerchief and sandals!

Well, what did happen then?

I remember various brawling invitations, though I don't always clearly remember the events themselves: the pub at Drewsteignton; Castle Drogo; the school barbecue; and Paul and Fi's wedding of course- who could forget that?!

The various farewells to Bobby Sutton after many successful years at the school.

The invitation to the first Test Match at Lords. I had no idea that I was witnessing the start of an unforgettable series - any more than I realised that I was witnessing our success at the World Cup rugger the year before.

The Flower Festival at St Andrews ; the originality and flair of all those who made those wonderful displays.
The "Fly In" at Taw Green (and the surprising number of comments on my article relating to this in The Beacon. It is almost unheard of for anyone to comment on a Beacon contribution!)
James and Ali's wedding - another village memorable event.
Issy's polo at Exmoor - and the appalling expense of having to buy a horse trailer and a 4x4 to pull it.

The Trafalgar Day celebration in September...

...... I learnt quite a lesson over those Trafalgar Day celebrations - oh so long ago now, way back in that September.

It all seemed so simple to start with: "Let us put on a short play to celebrate the event!" I say. "What a good idea!" everyone says, "Let's do it!"

In the sober light of day, I then realise we need a script. "Dave", I say, "Could you write a script?" "Sure", he says.

Then it dawns on me that we need people to act in it. "Ian, could you spare a moment to be the Bosun in our play?" "Clive, could you spare a moment.?" "John, could you..?" "Sara, Abi, Marnie, John ..?"

"Certainly," they all say.

Oh my goodness! We need a set! "Jeremy, Nick? I've got a bit of a request ."

"OK" they say.

Hang on a minute, we must have sound effects. "John, could you possibly.?" "It shall be done" he says.

"Er. Paul, Fi.? Can we take over your garden for a few weeks while we build a ship in it ...?"

"Well of course!" they say.

In retrospect I have no idea how I had the nerve to ask; and I don't quite understand why they all said yes; but they did; and we pulled it off.

I rather think that quite a few things happen around here in this fashion and because people unbegrudgingly give of their time and effort.

If you came on the 10 th September for the Trafalgar celebration, then I hope you all enjoyed it!
The harvest lunch .. no pictures I am afraid of this sociable and most enjoyable event.
Then there was the Pram Race. No comments are needed for this - the pictures speak for themselves!
The 'Temeraire' pressed into action again for the Carnival.

The latest is the cider press, coming to fruition (as it were) at last. It is something that I have wanted to get together for some years. We collected a couple of tons of cider apples a week or so ago and with a bit of tweaking here and there the press was pressed into action on Sunday 30 October.

Our barrels are full . but for how long I wonder?
