| In the leaflet produced by "the Lord Lieutenant of Devon's Committee for the New Trafalgar Dispatch and the Trafalgar Way with the support of Devon County Council" we were told that "An actor playing the part of Lieutenant Lapenotiere will deliver a New dispatch in a horsedrawn replica post chaise ... " Another sentence, it must be admitted did state "In Exeter the coach will be horsedrawn" but nowhere was it made clear that, apart from this, the replica stage coach would arrive on top of a land rover drawn trailer! The crowds that I saw in Sticklepath and South Zeal contained lots of children, many waving flags. I am sure that they were all excited by the crowds and the anticipation but whether the actual event added anything to this (with maybe the exception of seeing the actor dressed up in uniform) only their memories in future years will tell. Personally, as you can gather, I was disappointed by the show but proud of the crowds that gathered to see it. |
