Dartmoor National Park December - Guided Walks and Local Events - September 2005
Heritage Open Days 9th – 11th September

Heritage Open Days offers you four days of free access throughout England (excluding London) to discover, explore and enjoy local architecture, history and culture.

As part of this national event the Dartmoor National Park Authority has organised a short programme of visits, so why not come and join us.

You could find out more about the 4000 years of human settlement at Hawns Wood and see the archaeological evidence for this, as well as exploring the remains of Dr Fox’s Edwardian Garden.

Learn more about life on Dartmoor in the medieval period by visiting a traditional medieval Dartmoor longhouse and listen to accounts of Dartmoor life there during the first half of the 20th century, as captured by the Authority’s “Moor Memories” Oral History project.

You could also investigate the remains of South Devon’s biggest 19th Century copper mine. For more information on these events visit www.dartmoor-npa.gov.uk

Full details of all national events, including those listed above are also available by visiting www.heritageopendays.org or write to Heritage Open Days, The Civic Trust, Essex Hall, 1-6 Essex Street, London WC2R 3HU.
