Second Cut Silage - The size of the machinery used these days has to be seen to be believed - it only takes a couple of hours to harvest a 20 acre field
with a small workforce of 5 men (and one woman preparing the lunch/tea, serving ice-creams/drinks to keep them happy!)
The'honeycomb' type pattern is the result of tyres being placed on top of the plastic sheet to weigh it down and keep the air out of the silage.
The second cut of grass is placed on top of the first and rolled down before replacing the sheet and tyres.
