Following the last two single page editions of Kidz Have Your Say, Helen has now built her own website - Cooper's Creations (currently five pages) which you can link to from this site. The intention remains the same, to give the youth of our area a chance to 'have their say', either in words, drawings, photos or whatever. It is their chance to swap ideas and messages about the things that interest them. If your child has something to be proud of or would just like to take part get them to e-mail Helen: helen@beacon-villages.co.uk

FOSTPS 100 Club for 2005-2006

As you may know it has been a bit of an uphill struggle to get the 100 Club off the ground and running for 05/06 as we seem to have had a hiccup with getting the forms out, people have been joining more slowly and it is therefore taking time to get the numbers up so that the prizes are more worthwhile. On top of this I am having a rather pressured and difficult time myself personally and I don't have the time right now to chase folk up and get it all set up to run. So I have taken the decision along with my co-chair Theresa Weaver to give it a break and to restart the club from the end of September. Thus, the 05/06 club will run from Sept 05 until August 06 (no draw in August as usual and a double draw at Christmas, usually at the Auction in December). Those of you that have signed up and paid already have no need to worry - your £12 will cover you from September onwards for the year. Those of you who haven't joined yet but would like to can join in readiness for September - just fill in a yellow form (available from school or from me) or just give in details of your name and address and £12 for the year's membership. If anyone is concerned or unhappy about this or would prefer to have a refund now rather than leaving their money in the club's bank account until September, please speak to me.

Hopefully we will gather a few more members between then and now including new parents from the next Reception class and the prize money will be more. I hope this is acceptable to everyone and that we can go on to raise yet another £900+ for school, perhaps even a £1000 if we are lucky.

Yellow Woods Challenge

We have received a certificate for recycling 212 old yellow pages. West Devon schools collected 5092 copies. The winning school, Gulworthy collected 12 directories per pupil, obtaining the Gold Oak Award and £300. Meavy were second with £200 and the Silver Birch Certificate and third were Mary Tavy and Brentor who win the Beech Certificate and £100. Meavy also received an extra £100 for collecting the most directories overall - 1021 copies! West Devon have thanked us for helping to improve the recycling facilities in Devon by taking part in the scheme.

Car Parking

We have had a kind offer from Jenny & Keith Gregory who are the new managers at The Kings Arms in South Zeal. They are happy for any parents to make use of their car park to the rear of the pub at the beginning and end of the school day to help ease the congestion in the village. Please make use of this offer and remember that the car park at the Recreation Ground has plenty of spaces with a footpath across to the main street available now.

The Young Farmer Magazine

We have been sent a copy of the first magazine in a new series by a company called Little Mouse Print. It is available by post at a price of £1.75 per month from LittleMousePrint@aol Tel: 07840 292211. If you would like to have a look at the first copy, please ask in the office - it has puzzles, competitions, things to do and general information about farming through the seasons.
