Choral Society Summer Concert
Listening to the Okehampton Choral society on 20 th June in the Church of St. Andrew was a delightful way to spend a summers evening. Under the baton of John Holland the choir and soloists entertained us with a varied programme of music and song. The repertoire included pieces from Beethoven, Hymns Old and New and classic wartime favourites! As 'We'll meet again' was being sung two ladies in the audience waved union jacks.. nostalgic stuff! Judging by the smiles on the choir members faces they were not expecting this bit of audience participation! |
As always John made the organ sing and amused us with his musical anecdotes. One of which was that in the good old days at Exeter Cathedral it took one hundred men to pump the bellows for the organ. That must have been a labour of love or maybe they did it for a sixpence? |

Summer Fundraiser - Church of St. Andrew
£1,400.63p raised.not a bad result for a days work! Well I say a days work but that's not counting all the days leading up to the event when people were busy collecting bric-a-brac, bottles for the bottle stall, produce and homemade cakes, hay bales for the skittles alley, hanging bunting, shopping for burgers and sausages, painting the 'Roll-a-penny' board, erecting gazebos, baking for 'Puddings in Church', praying for good weather, line dancers and children rehearsing their steps and so on! Yes folks, a lot of people worked very hard and we are most grateful. There was a lovely atmosphere at the event. Yours truly was on B-B-Q and every stitch I had on smelt of onions by the time the burgers 'sold out'. I did manage to escape for twenty minutes to join my fellow line dancers for a demonstration. Michael, while being dragged onto the boards to join in, was heard muttering 'I'd rather have my eyes gouged out with hot pokers..'! At about 2 p.m. I thought a youth group had arrived, as there was an influx of young people. Boy did I feel old when I was told they were the parents of the wee children who had come to do 'Country Dancing'. |

I managed to take a few photos. I think baby Anna of South Zeal (see photo) was the youngest person there and Margaret Neill of South Tawton insists she was the oldest! Congratulations to Jennifer, Topaz and Indigo who all won prizes for their entries in the 'Decorate a Hat Competition'. |
Scouts AGM & BBQ
(It would be a good deed if some scout or parent could give us a write up
of the event to enter here.

Mythic Gardens
What a wonderful place to spend a few hours. Jennifer Howard and I had the place to ourselves one morning.not realizing that it only opened in the afternoons! Thank you to the lady of the house who allowed us visit anyway! In spite of her warning that the geese were a bit aggressive we were surprised when they tried to chase us! They are better than any guard dog! We were safe enough once we got past their house. It was a glorious day and Jennifer squealed with delight every time she discovered yet another sculpture among the greenery or a piece of art hanging from a tree. What a wonderful concept.turning an arboretum into an art gallery. The photos shown are some of Jennifer's favourites. |
