Rectory Ramblings - January 2005

A New Year has arrived, may it be one of peace and joy for you all. As we look back on 2004, we will all have our individual thoughts and memories. For some it will have been a year of positive enjoyable experiences, for others the twelve months may be remembered for times better forgotten and events that we will never be able to forget for their sadness or their impact upon us.

There are times when we get glimpses of how the world or indeed the Church can and should be, times where love and goodness and hope rise above the everyday humdrum of life. Jesus said ' Behold I make all things new'. God has the power to transform as he walks beside us in our happiness or our despair. I pray that in 2005 he will help us to see how life can be in his promise that he is with us always and that in Christ all things are made new.

Even as far away as we are in these small villages It is difficult not to be upset by the Tsunami disaster. This morning I happened upon this extract from 'Eskimo Song'..

The great sea has set me in motion
Set me adrift,
and I move as a weed in the river.

The arch of the sky
And mightiness of storms
Encompasses me,
And I am left......

So many words could be used - broken, dead, bereaved, devastated, humbled
