Recreation Ground Tidy Up |
13th Nov. It began as a follow up to the Parish Day in June 2004, when so much good work gave a new lease of life to the stream that runs through the Recreation Ground, with the banks of the stream cleared of scrub and brambles, together with a trim up for some of the trees.
Through out the summer it became more apparent that the hedges in & around the childrens play area were becoming intrusive and needed attention. Also the area beside the tennis courts was difficult to maintain and the shrubs and bushes were not really suitable.
So it was agreed to ask local people to give a few hours to sort these problems and those with experience (and machinery) were approached and asked if they could help out
A cold frosty morning saw several willing helpers arrive armed with chainsaws, hedge trimmers, strimmers and willing pairs of hands to make a start. |
Dave Denford went tree climbing and swung around the more mature trees trimming lower branches that were over hanging and gave them a short back and sides. |
Richard Haynes let fly at the play area hedge and the entrance to the field letting in plenty of day light. |

Mike Bending & Bryan Wolland sorted the picnic area by the tennis court and also the trees around the car park. |
An army of volunteers cleared the resulting trimming to 3 areas to be burnt at a later date |
Tim Sanderson & Brian Ainslee completed the repairs to the football stand |
Dawn & Vicki Watkins also took the chance to give the pavilion a clean& tidy and also kept everyone going with coffee throughout the morning |

Many thanks to all the 20 or so volunteers who gave their time, effort , machinery to make the tidy up such a worth while event. The results are clear for all to see and the benefit we be more apparent next spring when the trees will show a better shape and the surrounding areas will be easier to manage thanks to the clearing if unshapley shrubs & bushes. |
It it clear that management of trees and shrubs is an ongoing thing and maybe this could become an annual event (albeit easier after this years efforts).
The resulting trimmings from this years efforts are to be put on a bonfire and we apolagise in advance for the smoke from these and we will let those who might be affected know in advance. |
