October (the Eighth Month)
I seem to remember the Queen had an 'Annus Horribilis' a while ago (actually 1992). Well, October was my horrible month.

We started with our pony, Wicked, going lame and the vets not knowing if it was a very deep seated abcess or laminitis in one foot. Then, we nearly lost our cat Harriet, who has always had some sort of bronchitis and was brought back from the brink of death by pills similar to those my wife takes for her heart condition. Our troubles were not as bad as our friend's who had to have their horse Harry put down as he had bone problems. We cried for our loss (Harry was a neighbour to our horses in his field) so I just don't know how they coped. (see Photo Album)

In the middle of the month, my main hard disc had to be replaced. I had back up copies of all my files but this still didn't save me from having to re-install all of my software (and all of my passwords). That little trauma cost me a week, full time, rebuilding everything back to where I was. Then I installed Windows Service Pack 2! My lips are sealed.

Then the weather. I am not proud of my photos of either the Pram Race or the Carnival. The problem (apart from my lack of skill) was, in part, the weather and, in part, inherent in the digital camera that I use. It is fine in good light but in wind, rain and at night, it leaves a bit to be desired. No doubt if I were more skilled, I could overcome this, but life is too short.

I was left either with rain spotted out of focus non flash pics or ones in focus with great 'red eye' effects.

Finally, I repeat what I said last month. I would like to say how well the SWEP charity donations (CAF, Amazon, Dropcash) are doing. Amazon e-mailed me and said that as the earnings were so low they wouldn't bother to send them until it paid for the postage, so to speak!

Please, if you are going to buy any books, videos, software etc. do it through this site's link to Amazon, so that SWEP can get a few pence to help save a pony's life.

pete ps dont forget Broadband this month!
