Belstone News Report

by Baz Butcher

On Bank Holiday Sunday the Air Ambulance landed  near Belstone for a cyclist who had a dislocated shoulder. He probably didn't see the humps in the ground just above the moor gate up on Watchett Hill and was incorrectly riding on the grass not the road so paid the price.  The pair were on the way to the pub, one said, not after visiting it.

Helicopters have been flying low over the village for decades, but this is the first I have seen land. A road ambulance had arrived and called in the support which took 15 to 20 minutes to arrive. It came down only 50 feet from the moor gate and the air wash cleared all the loose grass tufts away in a snow storm which engulfed a few passing walkers. The engine was turned off and loading took about 20 minutes, probably as the injury was not too serious it wasn't worth rushing.

The cyclists companion then walked down to the pub (The Tors), so no doubt gave further details to sympathetic ears there.

If anyone else (locals or visitors) see and maybe photograph anything newsworthy in the area, I would be delighted to receive and publish your reports
