Official Opening of Pavilion and Snooker Hall |
It was as it should be, a combination of local community pride and sporting matters. A lot of interested villagers turned up - but not too many. The usual dedications and ‘thank you’s were said but in a genuine way with no egos or publicity seeking to make it banal. There was a genuine sporting celebrity to perform the official tape cutting, Eamon Dolan, Exeter City FC manager, who was also a genuine and nice guy. And, my attention was drawn to a photograph in the building of Jim Langford, who I was told, was the founder of the original Snooker Club and thus indirectly, an absent benefactor of the new building. Yes, that is the FA Cup that he is holding, apparently he used to look after it, when he was living in London. |
Like all events locally, it was a Devon 12.30 start (at 12.55) but this didn’t matter a bit (except to Jeremy who turned up with junior for a 12.00 noon start) as most of the onlookers drifted along about 12.45! The kids amused themselves playing football and the adults caught up with friends and updated themselves on local and family news. |
It is possible that some came along for the cheese and wine as an appetiser before going along to the local pubs for a Sunday Lunch and then settling down for the afternoon’s Arsenal v Manchester United game. |
