Joyce & Barry Woods, Dartmoor Dairy

Sadly, we start with the deaths of two South Tawton brothers, Arthur and Christopher Madders. Robin Tilley briefly mentioned the death of Arthur, in the January edition of the Villages Journal. Arthur lived all his life in South Tawton village and worked, for the most of it, for Endacotts the bakers, formerly, of South Zeal, but now, of course, in Okehampton.
Arthur was a South Tawton Parish Councilor for many years, as well as performing many other tasks in and for the community. He will sadly be missed very much by everyone in the village and the Parish.
His brother Christopher went away into the army and then settled in Charminster, in Dorset. He had, in the last couple of months, taken over a pub near Carmarthen or thereabouts, something he had always wanted to do. He died of a heart attack like his brother on 17th December 2003 and was buried at South Tawton on 30th December. The next day Arthur died, so the 2 brothers are buried side by side up in the church yard.

The Davidson family who live next door to us, are moving to Sticklepath. We wish them well in their new home and look forward to some new people moving into the village.

And finally, if you don't mind the cold weather and would like to go for a walk, you couldn’t do better than take the road on the way down to Addiscott. Whatever the weather, raining or sunny, your heart will be lifted by the snowdrops, out on the side of the road

Many of you know Taz and Sue Hooper from their days in the Seven Stars. They have now taken over the tearooms at Chagford and we wish them well in their new adventure.

Talking of the Seven Stars, don’t forget the Broadband Campaign meeting at the Seven Stars on February 17th at 7.30 pm. You don’t need to be a great Internet user to come along and participate. Having Broadband will be good for all our local businesses and so, in the long run, for all our villagers, as well. Come and have a drink in your local while you hear what can be done. If you want to know more about it, just click the button.
