The Book of Belstone

“The Book of Belstone”

In this fascinating and richly detailed account, authors Chris and Marion Walpole bring the history of their village of Belstone to life. Many people will know the village, as a starting point for walks into the heart of Dartmoor. Armed with this text, they can also explore the hidden corners and forgotten industries of a beautiful corner of the moor. From Beating the Bounds to Letterboxing, from Cricket Clubs to the Women's Institute, the authors cover every facet of the village life through the centuries, introducing the reader to a host of colourful characters, incidents and stories. The text concludes with a section describing every house in the parish.

Sell out Success

Belstone Players were very happy with the response to their pantomime Sinbad the Failure. Over 520 people attended the six performances including three sell-out shows. Over £2000 was taken at the box-office.

In the footsteps of Darwin ... and Russell Crowe

On Valentine's Day 14 February, there's another chance to enjoy the show - Travels in Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands. Many people requested, that the illustrated talk from October last year, be put on again so here it is!

Lots of fascinating footage of the exotic wild-life of the Galapagos, plus tales of intrepid journeys in the Amazon rain forests. And Russell Crowe? Turns out that the only bit of land, featured in the recent blockbuster film in which he stars, Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World, is the Galapagos Islands.

Starting at 7.30pm in Belstone Village Hall. Admission free, donations invited for Village Hall funds
