30th Dartmoor Folk Festival
30th Dartmoor Folk Festival

UPDATE: The pram race photos are now up - click here.

Welcome! – especially if you have arrived here from ‘The Beacon’ to see in colour the pictures contained in the September edition. All those pictures are somewhere here in full glory if you rummage around this website!

The draft of The Beacon that went to Martin at ‘gti’ in Okehampton this month was in colour, and the colour pictures looked rather good. It is just so disappointing that when printed in black and white they are pretty dire. Martin does very well, but he cannot perform miracles.

Anyway...

Whoever, or whatever, it is that caused the sun to shine during August must have found in favour, on the whole, of The Beacon patch.

I say 'on the whole' because whilst the Folk Festival and the Sticklepath Flower Show and other local events have already become rosy memories of sunny warmth, colour and enjoyment, not so, in that way, the Friday night Cider Evening: cold, blustery wind and rain - in mid-August.

Still, if there was a celestial message that should have been drawn from this I am afraid it was soon forgotten in the general conviviality that gradually spread during the cider evening and infected those who were there so that the memories - shaky memories perhaps - are still very pleasant and rosy, weather notwithstanding.

As to other matters, well, to my great relief there was also just enough time to make hay while the sun shone.

You will find pictures of the Folk Festival; the Cider Event; the Sticklepath Flower Show; and Hay Making by clicking on the pictures in this page.

Except for the Sticklepath pictures they are all mine, and hence they reflect what I saw and did and not necessarily what you saw and did. I notice plenty of other people taking photographs and it would be good if these could be posted on this website as well as any old nonsense that I do.

I think this website has a huge number of photographs on it such that it is really becoming a photographic archive (Rob: 2181 pictures added since October last year). Add to it by getting your pictures to Rob! Having said that, maybe Rob can explain where all these photographs are!

Robin Tilley - September 2007

As Robin says above, we would really like to see your pictures. While Robin does a very good job of attending all the various events he can't be everywhere. If you have any photos please email me at rob@beacon-villages.co.uk and we can work out the best way for us to pick them up (email, cd etc).

If you want to see all the pictures on the site click, on the link to "Photo Archive" in the menu at the top or click here. You can also see older pictures from the old website site here.

We would also appreciate any news items, annnouncements, general interest stories etc. for the news page. Perhaps you might be able to write an occasional column about your interests, hobbies or just general life in the villages. The more content we get the better the website will be. Drop me a line at rob@beacon-villages.co.uk if you have any ideas.
