Merrymeet Signage Appeal
February 2007

This month's update is given over to the recent controversy about the lack of signage to the Beacon Villages from the Merrymeet junction of the A30. This includes a ready prepared letter for you to download, update and sign before sending to the Highways Agency.

Notes on the letter from the Parish councils:

Where Is South Zeal?

Many people have contacted Jane Jecks, editor of the Beacon and the parish clerks of Chagford, South Tawton, Sticklepath and Drewsteignton, asking why there is no mention of -

Chagford
Drewsteignton
South Zeal
Sticklepath
Whiddon Down
- on the new traffic direction sign boards at and before the new Merrymeet junction on the A30.

The Highways Agency is responsible for the signs. If, like many others, you would like to send a letter of complaint about this to the Highways Agency, there is a ready-prepared letter available in the shop in South Zeal and on the Beacon Villages web-site (www.beacon-villages.co.uk). If you wish to alter this letter in any way before you send it, it can be downloaded from the web-site and there are also copies on CDs in the shop. If you take a CD, please return it for others to use.

Parishioners' persistence has so far resulted in the promise of a Review by the Highways Agency – see the letter from the Highways Agency on the Website and in the shop.

Your letter could tip the balance towards getting new sign directions on the A30 to our important Dartmoor villages
